Zarwin Baum fundraiser at Crystal Tea Room grows ever more popular
On Thursday, March 16, the 15th annual “Zarwin Baum March Madness” fundraiser took place at the Crystal Tea Room. As teams like Yale, Wichita State and Villanova advanced in this year’s NCAA Tournament, the Philadelphia law firm and more than 2,000 guests watched the first day of the tourney while raising over $35,000 for Philabundance. Guests dined on Philly pretzels, cheese steaks and Tastykakes and enjoyed sports games and a cigar bar.
On March 23, Scannapieco Development Corporation celebrated the symbolic completion of its new residential building, 500 Walnut, with a “Topping-Off Ceremony.” Two-thirds of the 26-story building’s 35 units have already sold, including the penthouse for a record $17 million. On Saturday, March 11, at the Sheraton Downtown, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women presented their annual “Madam C.J. Walker Luncheon and Economic Empowerment Seminar.” Women gathered to network, shop and enjoy a luncheon in order to promote their mission of scholarship, advocacy and leadership for black women and girls in the community.
Social media marketing company hosts cook off
ChatterBlast held their 2nd annual Chowderblast competition at their offices in Center City, where their employees and clients prepared chowders for competition. It was a delicious event, where a panel of three judges tasted and picked the Gumbo Chowder as the winner. Celebrities converge in Philly passing as New York
Director Neil Berger is filming his new movie “The Untouchables” in Philadelphia this month. Stars Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston as well as other notable actors have been in town. The film is based on a 2011 movie called “Les Intouchables” and will be shooting in the Philadelphia area through the end of February.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation hosted its 11th Annual Lemon Ball on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market Street. Lemon yellow dresses, ties and accessories were the fashion statement of the night. An extensive silent auction and a vibrant live auction raised over $840,000 for pediatric cancer research.
Earlier this month, University City’s Dim Sum House celebrated its grand opening. Guests attending the party enjoyed a buffet of delicious food tastings of Shanghai and Cantonese dim sum. A traditional lion dance known to bring luck was performed to the delight of the diners. This is the second restaurant opened by Jane G’s owner, Jane Guo.
The glamorous Hair O’ The Dog annual event at the Fillmore kicked off the winter social season in Philadelphia. Over 1500 well-dressed guests walked the red carpet at the event before heading into the concert hall to be entertained by musicians and DJ’s including: Mr Hollywood, Lil Jon and EDM singer Vassy.
