Sheila Simmons brings many years of writing and communications experience to her work for Liberty City Press. She began her professional writing career at the Philadelphia Daily News, where she covered Business, City Hall and Education. After working as an adjunct professor for Temple University’s Department of Journalism, Public Relations & Advertising, she returned to the media as a City and Lifestyles Editor for the Philadelphia Tribune, and later, Education Writer at the Philadelphia Public School Notebook. Simmons also served as Director of Communications for the Nutter for Mayor re-election campaign and Director of Communications for State Sen. Anthony H. Williams. She put her passion for children’s well-being to work as Education Director for Public Citizens for Children and Youth, the region’s primary children’s advocacy organization. . Her experience in writing about arts and culture hails from the ClevelandPlain Dealer, where she wrote about hip-hop, pop culture, theatre and film. Simmons received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill. She lives in Philadelphia with her son.
